Guest Post :: How To Wear It {The Peggy}

Here is our second fabulous post from guest blogger Jordan Clarke! This time she has worked her magic on {The Peggy} and I am sure you will agree that she has done a fantastic job. Thank you Jordan!

Hello again! Time for another “How to Wear It” postie – this week based on the gorgeous {The Peggy} dress.

This beautiful pleated dress is perfect for almost any occasion – sweet and casual for family weekend bbq’s, strolling around the markets, dressed up for work… Even, one of the many music festivals on offer this time of year. Here’s how:

  • Lace-up Boots – The easiest way to soften the prim-and-proper tone of this dress and make it a little more indie-rock is to throw on some vintage lace-up boots. These hot little numbers were found at LaVintage’s online store, where you can find loads of hand selected vintage goodies. Pair them with opaque tights if the weather is cool.
  • Fedora Hat – A never-fail option at festivals. This gem is made by Peter Grimm from a 100% recycled Jute coffee bag. How cool is that?
  • Waist Belt – A belt around your waist helps to define your shape – match back with your shoes or go for a bold punch of colour drawn from one of the dress colours.
  • Cardigan - A cardigan to keep the cool wind off your arms is comfy and casual. I’m a sucker for grey.
  • Tote Bag – A nice big soft bag like this one by Sarah Donegan, to keep all your festival supplies in. A soft bag is so much easier to cart around than a stiff leather/pleather one.
  • Cute Jewelry – A rocking necklace by Kid Viskous, cassette tape brooch by Another Empire and Gwendolyn Felt Lady Badge by Anna Laura (both from Leeloo)

[If you miss out on the lovely {The Peggy} (reduced, hello!?) try this dress is from ModCloth- not quite the same without the soft cowl neck and pleats but pretty damn close! It’s sold out, but put your name down to be notified when it’s back in stock.)

It’s all about mixing up casual with constructive. You’ve got your tailored vintage dress and waisted belt contrasting with scuffed-up booties, soft bag and cosy cardigan. It’s all a matter of playing around until you feel the right balance. A couple of brooches and badges look super cute pinned to your bag and are the best way to add a playful element to your outfit. Oh, and a hat is good for you. Don’t forget.

because we love :: retro eBay mash-ups

right when you think you have seen it all when it comes to awesome home design blogs, a blog called Plastolux pops up before me and throws me off my feet. check out these awesome eBay collages they have created, using things found on eBay for sale!! um. I am like totally going to steal this idea! just kidding, but I definitely think our eBay themed posts could have a bit more layout/collage style to them, don’t you think? hehe. Check out the original posts to find links to all the items (although most likely ended, and most likely from USA).

vintage girls then :: ali mcgraw

Anytime you see a modern girl with long dark hair,

a centre part, a fresh face, gorgeous doe eyes and a cute, imperfect smile,

chances are she’s channelling Ali McGraw.

Whenever you spy a fashionista in a vintage trench coat,

a knitted cloche hat or a large fluffy busby,

the influence can be directly attributed to Ali McGraw.

If you spy a woman ageing gracefully,

allowing her face to display the wisdom gained, pain endured

and smiles enjoyed during her time on the planet

thankfully there’s Ali McGraw leading the pack.

This gorgeous model-turned-actress was once married to Steve McQueen,

is a yoga devotee, an advocate for animal welfare, a mother

and someone who made us all cry when she starred

with Ryan O’Neal in Love Story.

Smart, sweet and sexy.

Thank goodness for role models like this.

Guest Post :: How To Wear It {The Annabelle}

Hello lovely readers. Please allow me to introduce to you our super guest blogger Jordan Clarke from the fabulous The Art of Jordan! Those with a keen eye for art would have seen her amazing pieces in the Once Upon exhibition last year or maybe sussed out her new etsy shop. Not only is she an amazing artist, she also has a fantastic eye for fashion and style (see more on Jordan’s blog) and we are so excited to have Jordan here with an extra special post to help you find the perfect accessories for the perfect dress!

Valentine's Day (the eco way)

The delightful Angela and Renee of {Twin Set} have asked me to whip up some ‘fashion how-to’ guest posts (thanks girls!) and as soon as I saw their new dress The Annabelle I had visions of love-hearts, red roses and sweethearts.

I really love their suggestion of plimsoles with this dress for everyday – it’s a casual, fun and youthful look that’s great for the warmer months. But seeing as Valentine’s is around the corner…let’s zhuzh it up a little!

Valentine’s calls for a dash of pink and red. A bit cheesy, but I still remember one year when I wore a red sweater with a flowy skirt and little red shoes. Walking across the street to meet my boyfriend (who had unintentionally worn a pink shirt to work that day), the romance of the colours struck me and made my heart flutter. I felt very Dolce Vita. And I am definitely not one for cliched, romantic sop.

So here’s how to wear your Annabelle with style this Valentines:

  • Bolero: A cute, floral dress like The Annabelle calls for a cropped bolero over your shoulders if the weather cools. Since it’s so small you can wear a little red one for a real punch of colour.
  • Slingbacks: These little hotties are made by Beyond Skin and are completely vegan and eco-friendly. Who knew responsible fashion could be so chic? The neutral shade will soften all the warm reds.
  • Handbag: Matching your handbag to your shoes is very old-school fashion ideology and not one I usually subscribe to. But Valentine’s is an excuse to be soppy and this Sarah Donegan Beau Bag from The Green Apple works perfectly. And the bow is oh-so-sweet.
  • Accessories: Less is more I reckon. A brooch, ring and necklace could potentially be too much, but these are so delicate you can get away with it. Red vintage fabric brooch from The Green Apple; handmade Love Predictor necklace from This Charming Girl & retro button Red Bubbles ring by Much Love from Leeloo.
  • Chocolates: Um, hello? Valentine’s without chocolate? I think not. And you just can’t go past these decadent handcrafted choccies from Select Hampers. Nom nom…

[If you aren't the lucky girl who nabs The Annabelle, you can get a dress like the Be My Valentine from ModCloth - the Retro Indie online store. But be quick, their stock sells out super fast!]

Lets make Jordan feel welcome by letting us know what you think of her first super amazing guest post!! Now I am so inspired for my Valentine’s outfit, I just need to make sure the date is just as sweet!!

eco life :: on your bike

Whilst I dream

of cycling my way home,

baguette in my basket,

on cool days like this

I think about how much nicer the world would be

if we all rode around on lovely bikes like these.

Quieter, fitter, healthier and much-less-smoggier.

Just….smilier.

lens love :: ‘new independent photography’

flickr is not only a fantastic site to upload your photos and share them with the world, it is a great place to find inspiration and spend hours and hours looking at the billions of amazing images. although sometimes it can be a bit overwhelming and be hard to know where to start. sometimes checking someones favourites can be great, or if you like more interaction, groups are fantastic. you can join them, browse them, upload to them, and get totally lost in them. so you can imagine how excited I get when I find a good curated* one. Recently Angela introduced me to the group ‘new independent photography‘ and every image just blows me away. Fingers crossed they accept my request to join.

vintage girls then :: a beautiful body

As you can probably imagine, I was pretty pi**ed off about the whole Jen Hawkins thing that when down these last few weeks. Sure, I always thought she was gorgeous, and I know that she works damn hard to look the way she does, but it just angered me for a whole bunch of reasons. I won’t go into it here, because this is a pretty lovely sweet blog about nice and lovely pretty things, but I thought I would share with you some gorgeous vintage postcards, featuring some beautiful women to lighten the mood. Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying there is anything wrong with Jen’s body, I am just not sure how necessary it is for me to see it naked.

I should probably get my facts straight before saying this, but I am assuming these images would be airbrushed free?

{vintage postcard scans from here}

I could be just delusional due to the
vintage amazingness of these images,
but would you say this is a more accurate
representation of the “average” woman?
